“The number of handguns imported into the U.S. had a major jump for the month of February, according to a report on firearm imports by the National Shooting Sports Foundation released this week.
Compared to last year, handgun imports increased by 66 percent, jumping from 140,045 to 232,406, according to the report. Other firearm categories had only a marginal change, with a 11.2 percent decrease in rifles, a 7.2 percent increase in shotguns, and a 2.5 percent increase in muzzleloaders.
Ammunition imports more than doubling with a 57.3 percent increase from last year, jumping from 190.2 million units to 299.1 million units. For shotgun ammo, which is categorized separately, there was an increase of 40.2 percent from last year, a jump from 11.1 million to 15.5 million.”
