At least one California gun shop has learned the hard way that people who support the 2nd amendment are some of the most organized, outspoken, and grassroots members of society. And when something threatens their rights, they don’t just sit back and watch it happen.
The Oak Tree Gun Club, located outside Los Angeles, was the first gun store to carry the Armatix smart gun, a .22 caliber pistol that could only be fired with the accompanying wrist watch, which of course was sold separately for an additional $399. The German made iP1 cost $1399.
As soon the so called “smart gun” hit the shelves the gun shop faced severe backlash from the pro gun community, many of whom threatened to boycott the store. And with at least one New Jersey law mandating that all handguns in the state be personalized within 3 years of a smart gun going on sale anywhere in the US, we as pro-gunners have a legitimate concern.
According to the Washington Post, the pro gun community put enough pressure on the gun store for the shop to realize it’s error.
The Oak Tree gun shop quickly removed not only the iP1 smart gun but all other products from the Armatix company, fearing more backlash and reduction in sales from the gun community. Perhaps they are having flashbacks of 2000, when Smith and Wesson struck a deal with the Clinton administration on smart guns and nearly put themselves out of business.
