Opinion: End concealed carry restrictions

“American citizens should be outraged after the happenings in San Bernardino, California, on Dec. 2.

The president’s statement is 100 percent correct. This has become far too commonplace. These incidents must stop. Our Congress must act immediately to end these tragedies.

Innocent people being slaughtered helplessly at the hand of the perpetrators is unacceptable and must stop.

Congress and our leaders must end the concealed carry oppression forced upon American citizens by state and local laws. People must not only be allowed, but encouraged if not required to protect themselves and their loved ones. Cowering in the corner, hiding in a closet and playing dead are not means of self defense. Defending yourself is meeting the threat with equal or greater force to immediately and decisively stop the incident. Self defense is a human right.

Just last week Kathy Lanier, the police chief of Washington, D.C., made the following statement on 60 Minutes.

“Your options are run, hide, or fight,” the D.C. police chief said. “If you’re in a position to try and take the gunman down, to take the gunman out, it’s the best option for saving lives before police can get there.”
