One doesn’t have to look far to see the utter disgust on the faces of average Americans when they see how our government is treating our Veterans.
In the wake of the Veterans’ affairs scandal, it was revealed that our former fighting men and women were pretty much left to die while waiting for the medical care that was promised to them, that some so desperately needed. I guess this is the thanks from our government that these individuals receive after leaving their lives, blood, limbs, and, in some cases, their sanity on foreign soil.
While there are many groups as of late that do what they can to assist our vets, one group has begun to stand out to the point where I needed to write about them. The Fallen Soldiers March is an open books, fully transparent 501 (c) (3) charity organization that has a history dating back to 2009 and received tax exempt status in 2012. The cornerstone for this organization is rooted in the word of God. John 15:13: “Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
Jim Retzke and his group have realized that many of our vets, upon returning to the world that they left behind, are either physically or mentally challenged to a point where coping with everyday life makes them feel alone and no longer useful in society–thus putting them on a possible path to self destruction. Therefore, the Fallen Soldiers March group has dedicated themselves and has teamed up with a K-9 training facility to supply service dogs to the Veterans who need them, as this is one of the needs that isn’t entirely covered by the VA. They feel that for those who have sacrificed so much, there is no greater unconditional love and affection than that from a dog, and the Lord, your God.
Unfortunately, the cost for this project from pup to entrance into service for a Veteran ranges from 15 to 30 thousand dollars per dog. This group survives on public donations (which are tax deductible), assistance in website design, and donations of time for other administrative duties. They are currently seeking individual donations as well as corporate sponsorships and endowments, as their ultimate vision is to eventually set up a state-of-the-art, K-9 service dog training center and ranch–as well as Fallen Soldiers March chapters across the country with the ability to meet spiritual and minor medical needs as well.
